Here are 10 homegrown candle brands made locally that experiment with natural botanicals, essential oils, aromatherapy and even flower petals and gemstones.

Candles of Light by Daphne Tan combines hand-blended essential oils and botanicals to create scents inspired by nature. Handcrafted with pure soy and beeswax, and blended with completely natural ingredients, the candles are crafted to evoke a sense of familiarity and joy. Bestsellers include Dusk, which is perfect to keep calm and relax thanks to its geranium, patchouli and spice notes, while Dawn is a soft blend of lavender, citrus and mint scents that make for a rejuvenating start to the day. The peach-scented Noon candle is the latest release by the homegrown brand. Prices range from S$29.90 for a 4oz candle to S$65.90 for an 8oz gemstone candle.

Artisan’s Garden

Artisan’s Garden prides itself on its tealight candles, which are made with 100% soy wax and eco-wicks for a clean burn. You can find their tealight candles stocked at Unpackd @ Upper Thomson. With two types of tealight candles available, its bestseller is the Mozzies Away ($13) – combining natural mosquito repellant and Lemongrass & Citronella essential oils.

A Dose of Something Good

A Dose of Something Good was founded in 2012 by Robert Upton. At first glance, the products can easily be mistaken as a ceramic home decor of sorts. However, within the porcelain box lies hand-poured candles. Heavily inspired by Upton’s life and childhood in both Australia and Asia, the scents include Violent Woods and Kamedava’s arrow. These candles are going at S$105 each and are stocked at its flagship store located at Holland Village.

Breathe Essentials Co.

Birthed out of founder Charlene Koh’s interest in the area of aromatherapy during her battle with cancer, Breathe Essentials focuses on the physical and mental relief that fragrances can provide. While its range carries mostly essential oils, they also have a fair share of scented candles. Hand-poured with love in Singapore and made from 100% cocosoy wax, Breathe Essentials Candles are free from sulphate, parabens and phthalates. The range of candles are going at $39 for 200ml and $49 for 300ml with Peony Blush being a hot favourite.

Sally’s Room

Sally’s Room focuses on bringing nature to you. One of its hot favourite unique fragrances include Scandinavian Woodlands, a fusion of mistletoe, pine cones, high sequoias and fir balsam. As it burns, you feel like you’re being transported to the Canadian woods on a long holiday. Artisan of Sense

Launched in 2017 by Vivian Chung, Artisan of Sense carries artisan candles that are made entirely from eco-friendly soy wax from US-grown soybeans. The essential oils in each candle are carefully selected, making sure that they are fully 100% pure and of therapeutic grade. They are also free from phathlates,  parabens, sulphates, animal testing or toxins. Candles are categorised into three categories – classic ($30) , glass dome ($78) and travel ($30) candles.

A–kynd

Started out by Celeste Ho and her boyfriend, Jasper Tan, kyndles are made of 100% natural soy wax, decorated with a petal-based candle. All jars are unique to its own combination. Currently, the store carries 8 different variants of kyndles and are retailed at $33.90 each. Apart from scented candles, A–Kynd is also known for its petal-ed jewelry. Kyndles are known to be sold out fast, so do keep an eye out on the online store!

Diadem

The Diadem brand was first birthed at Ena Briant and her husband’s very own wedding, when the handmade soy wax candles that were produced as Wedding Favours became a big hit among their family and friends. 

At Diadem, Candles are hand poured into recycled bottle candle jars or enamel mugs. Candles are made with 100% natural soy wax, complemented with cotton lead-free wicks or wooden wicks to ensure that no toxins are introduced into the air you breathe. The reduction in soot also results in a purer, healthier air quality in your home. 

The candles come in two main types – recycled bottle candles and also in enamel mugs. They are retailed for $39.90 and $24.90 respectively.
