Glass flowers stay forever in bloom. But that’s not the only reason to visit Gardens by the Bay now – these bigger-than-life glass sculptures that have been exhibited all over the world is finally making a stop in Singapore.
The award-winning artist Dale Chihuly is known for his mastery of the beautiful and delicate art of glassblowing, resulting in magnificent installations that play with light, space, and form. His large-scale sculptures measure up to 10 metres in height and weigh as much as 3600 kg.
Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom is the artist’s reimagination of the landscapes of Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay. Enjoy the stroll among 25 of his magnificent large-scale installations, as well as more than 80 pedestal sculptures and two-dimensional works. Gardens by the Bay is the first Asian national garden to play host to these stunning masterpieces, following the footsteps of other successful exhibitions in Kew Gardens, London and the New York Botanical Garden.
Look forward to Ethereal White Persians at the Serene Garden, where the translucent lotus leaves rising out of water make a stunning statement against the lush greenery. This installation first debuted in 2019 and can be admired for its wild asymmetry and arresting swirling patterns.
A blue beauty to admire is Cloud Forest Persians that first exhibited in 1986 as part of his exhibition at the Palais du Louvre in Paris. The Persian series celebrates colour and the dramatic compositions include installations mounted on walls, overhead on ceilings, and even assembled in the form of chandeliers and towers. It can be found at the Cloud Forest.
More sculptures you can’t miss include the majestic Setting Sun and Moon. Setting Sun, a massive combination of colour and spirals, was designed specifically for this exhibition and can now be found at The Meadow.
Moon is a large spherical installation that was last seen in Chihuly’s iconic exhibition, Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem 2000. It drew in more than one million visitors when it was first revealed – this will be the first time in 20 years that it will be exhibited in public.
Enjoy the view in the comfort of the air-conditioned Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, or view works like Red Reeds within the Serene Garden. More works can be discovered as you stroll among the three Outdoor Gardens.
