7 Summer 2021 Movie Releases To Watch Out For

We didn’t get much of a summer movie season last year, but this year is making a heroic return because there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months of 2021. From Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films to horror flicks, here are 7 Summer 2021 Movie Releases To Watch Out For.

1. Cruella (started premiering)

This live-action film brings us the origin story of antagonist Cruella de Vil from the 1996 movie, 101 Dalmatians. Emma Stone stars as the iconic Disney villain, a young fashion designer who eventually develops an unhealthy obsession with Dalmatian furs. Emma Thompson, from The Devil Wears Prada, co-stars as her boss.

Cruella is already out in theatres across Singapore. Alternatively, if you’re a Disney+ subscriber with Premier Access, you can also choose to watch it in the comforts of your own home.

Where to watch: In cinemas or on Disney+ (with Premier Access) right now

2. A Quiet Place 2 (10th June)

Shhhhh, you hear that? It’s the sound of A Quiet Place 2 – John Krasinksi’s highly anticipated sequel to his 2018 box office success. This horror slash thriller will feature Krasinksi himself along with his movie (and real life) wife, Emily Blunt, as they take us through the events leading up to the first film, as well as the aftermath of it.

Where to watch: In cinemas, starting 10th June 2021

3. Fast and Furious 9 (24th June)

Fast and Furious 9 was a little slow in coming out, thanks to the pandemic. But now it’s finally here, and it promises a hundred and forty-five minutes pumped full of fast cars, cool stunts and satisfying camaraderie. And while the de-facto leader of the group, Dom, is all about family, things take an interesting turn here because his family now becomes the problem. John Cena will make his debut in the film as Dom’s evil never-mentioned-before brother, and… well, you’ll have to watch the film to find out.

Where to watch: In cinemas, starting 24th June 2021

4. Black Widow (8th July)

MCU fans received a healthy dose of content this year, with the likes of Wandavision as well as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. And there’s plenty more to be excited about with the upcoming movies in 2021. First up is Black Window, featuring the red-haired superspy in a timeline sometime after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Agent Romanoff gets caught in a conspiracy with ties to her past, and must confront both her history and past relationships.

Where to watch: In cinemas or on Disney+ (with Premier access), starting 8th July 2021

5. Luca (17th June)

Luca follows the story of a friendship between two young boys, who both also happen to be sea monsters. This family-friendly animated film will be available from 17 June in theatres as well as Disney+, without the need for Premier Access.

Where to watch: In cinemas or on Disney+, starting 17th June 2021

6. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (1st July)

It seems like there hasn’t been a good horror flick in forever. But fear not, scary-movie enthusiasts, because The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is here. Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren return to the franchise to unearth the truth behind a murderer’s claim of demonic possession.

Where to watch: In cinemas, starting 1st July 2021

7. Forever Purge (1st July)

Following the events of The Purge: Election Year, Forever Purge takes us to a ranch in Texas. Residents and workers of the ranch must survive the day after Purge Night, thanks to a group of outsiders who unlawfully continue their own Purge violence.

When to watch: In cinemas, starting 1st July 2021
