7 Exciting Netflix Releases Coming Your Way This February 2021

Bored of February? Look out for these noteworthy new Netflix releases coming out! 

1. Outer Space Korean Blockbuster: Space Sweepers (February 5)

Fans of Song Joong-ki rejoice! He will be returning with an action-packed film alongside actress Kim Tae-ri, who acted in The Handmaiden (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018). 

Follow the crew of Victory who set off to clean up space debris and encounter a potential crisis on their hands. Genius space pilot (Song Joong-ki), mysterious ex-space pirate Captain Jang (Kim Tae-ri), spaceship engineer Tiger Park (Jin Sun-kyu), reprogrammed military robot Bubs (Yoo Hai-jin) and their team dynamics will make Space Sweepers an entertaining sci-fi must-watch. 

This is the first outer space Korean blockbuster film.

2. Little Big Women, Taiwan’s 2020 Box Office Hit (February 5)

This Taiwanese film won several Golden Horse Awards (equivalent to Oscars in America) and became the country’s highest-grossing box office film of 2020. Little Big Women tells the story of a family struggling to cope with grief of their estranged father’s passing and what he left in his absence. 

Netflix won the global rights to distribute Hsu Chen-chieh’s film.

3. Zendaya to star in Malcolm & Marie (February 5)

February 5 is sure a busy date for movies! This black-and-white film starring Zendaya and John David Washington was filmed during the pandemic quarantine. 

Malcolm & Marie features a filmmaker and his girlfriend returning home from his movie premiere and towards a romantic reckoning. The cast filmed from June 17 to July 2; everyone was tested for COVID-19 and quarantined for two weeks before filming began. 

Netflix acquired this movie for $30 million dollars.

4. The Grand Finale: Always and Forever, Lara Jean (February 12)

The third and final installment of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is back in time to complete your Valentine’s Day! Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centino) finally get together after the twists and turns of the last two movies. In Always and Forever, Lara Jean, they venture out of the high school world and into its possibilities: not only do they go on a New York City school trip, Lara-Jean also dips into her half-Korean roots.

This finale journeys with Lara-Jean and Peter on the cusp of new adventures: graduation, prom, and enrolling into the college of their dreams. Only, life doesn’t always quite turn out the way you expect… Will they finally have a happy ever after?

5. South Korean Drama Series Sisyphus: The Myth (February 17)

Park Shin-hye who acted in Memories of the Alhambra (2018) and The Heirs (2013) returns with a sci-fi mystery drama serial with Sisyphus: The Myth

The drama tells the story of a genius engineer Han Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo) seeking to uncover the mystery behind his older brother’s death. Kang Seo-hae (Park Shin-hye) is a soldier from the future who has travelled in search of him. 

JTBC is releasing the first episode on February 17 as its 10th Anniversary special drama.

6. Mafia black comedy drama serial Vincenzo, starring Song Joong-ki (February 20)

Song Joong-ki has certainly been keeping busy! Besides Space Sweepers, he is due to star in the black comedy drama serial Vincenzo

Adopted at 8, Park Joo-hyung (Song Joong-ki) grows up in Italy to become a lawyer named Vincenzo Cassano who works for the mafia. When a war between mafia groups erupts, he flees to South Korea, where he gets involved with lawyer Hong Cha-young (Jeon Yeo-bin) who would do anything to win a case.

tvN will premiere the drama on February 20. 


7. Hindi Adaptation of The Girl on the Train (February 26)

The bestseller crime thriller novel by British author Paula Hawkins makes its return… in Hindi. The movie will star Parineeti Chopra, one of the highest paid female actresses in India. The Girl on the Train centres around a voyeuristic girl who fixates on the lives of a perfect couple from afar, only to witnesses a shocking scene and gets involved in a mysterious murder. 

Perhaps this is Netflix’s foray into the $2.83 billion-dollar strong Bollywood.
