Climbing wasn’t exactly the most popular choice of sport a few years ago, but they’ve been all the rage recently. In addition to rock climbing, where a harness is required and you get to climb much higher, there’s also the option of bouldering, a form of climbing that takes place on shorter walls without the use of technical safety equipment like ropes, harnesses, or helmets.
Both options are available for kids aged 4 and above so if you’re looking for a fun activity involving your little ones, here are five bouldering and rock climbing gyms that are great for the whole family.
Kinetics Climbing
A short walk from Farrer Park MRT station, Kinetics Climbing is a premium bouldering gym that offers quality boulders and top-roped climbing walls with complementary training areas, one to one private coaching, certification classes and technique clinics conducted by certified instructors and more! They have a variety of wall surfaces and frequently updated routes that cater to climbers of any level.
If you’ve been wanting to give climbing a try but you’re not sure where to begin, their Just Climb taster session might just be the solution for you. The one-hour session allows you to experience both top-rope climbing and bouldering by yourself or in a small group of up to 4 pax. Kids as young as 4 years old can participate, however the bouldering component may only be conducted for participants above the age of 13 for safety reasons. This course is priced at $45 for 1 pax, and $36 per pax with 2 or more participants. Otherwise, a standard Entry Pass is $19 while students 21 years old and below can enter for $15.

Clip ‘n Climb
New Zealand-born Clip ‘n Climb was proudly brought to our shores by HomeTeamNS Tampines. Unlike the typical rock climbing gym, Clip ‘n Climb is an action-packed, revolutionised climbing theme park catered for climbers of all ages and features colourful walls and abstract themes, with 19 unique climbing challenges of varying difficulties.
The walls at Clip ‘n Climb are seriously wacky—climb up a game of Tetris, up a mountain with ice picks, or hang on to spaghetti-like strings instead of conventional rocks. There is no minimum age to participate in Clip ‘n Climb. Anyone weighing between 10kg to 150kg is good to go!
An individual 90-minute climbing session ranges from $18-$25. If you’re visiting as a group, every additional participant would be $14-$21.
